Infidelity
Part 1: Introduction to this article series
At Tim D. Wilson Investigations, we have helped countless people who suspect their spouse or significant other is cheating on them. So we’ve taken some time to compile a good amount of information and research findings on the subject, and we’ve broken it up into 8 parts:
Part 1: Introduction
Part 2: Who is cheating?
Part 3: Men and cheating
Part 4: Women and cheating
Part 5: Why do people cheat?
Part 6: Social roles and infidelity
Part 7: Other infidelity statistics
Part 8: More infidelity research (Cheating and Big Fancy Words)
Finding Proof
Remember, if you suspect your spouse is cheating, Tim D. Wilson Investigations can help you uncover the truth.
If you’ve ever suspected your husband or wife of cheating on you, then if you’re anything like most people, above all, you just want to know if it’s true. You may “know” in your gut, but you want proof. Proof to confront them with. Proof to show other people. Proof just to bring closure to what can be months or even years of gut-wrenching suspicion, so that you can move on in the best way for you.
The secrecy of an affair often creates a sense of helplessness in the victim that only compounds the offense of infidelity. Your spouse wont’ admit it, and you can’t prove it on your own. You feel helpless, and that helplessness can be agonizing. Hiring a private investigatorcan get you the facts and evidence you need to regain your sense of empowerment in an out of balanced relationship.
Infidelity Statistics
The divorce rate in America has been above 50% for some time, and while finances are often cited as the number one cause, infidelity is something that is almost certain to strain a marriage beyond the brink. In fact, a recent study published January 2014 by the Associated Press Journal of Marital and Family Therapy stated that only 31% of marriages survive discovered or confessed infidelity. Other statistics from study are in the chart below.
Obviously, cheaters don’t publicize their cheating activities, so by its very nature, exact details about and extra-marital affairs can never be precisely determined, even with accepted statistical margins of error. However, it is safe to say that more people cheat than admit so, even in anonymous surveys. Therefore, the numbers presented in this statistics are probably lower than they are in reality.
Marriage Infidelity Statistics | Data |
Percent of marriages where one or both spouses admit to infidelity, either physical or emotional | 41 % |
Percent of men who admit to committing infidelity in any relationship they’ve had | 57 % |
Percentage of women who admit to committing infidelity in any relationship they’ve had | 54 % |
Percent of married men who have strayed at least once during their married lives | 22 % |
Percent of married women who have strayed at least once during their married lives | 14 % |
Percentage of men and women who admit to having an affair with a co-worker | 36 % |
Percentage of men and women who admit to infidelity on business trips | 35% |
Percentage of men and women who admit to infidelity with a brother-in-law or sister-in-law | 17 % |
Average length of an affair | 2 years |
Percentage of marriages that last after an affair has been admitted to or discovered | 31 % |
Percentage of men who say they would have an affair if they knew they would never get caught | 74 % |
Percentage of women who say they would have an affair if they knew they would never get caught | 68 % |
Percent of children who are the product of infidelity | 3 % |
Clearly, the strain of adultery on a marriage is too much for most to bare. Nevertheless there is something in us that must know the truth, no matter how damaging it may be to. Some things in life we may be better off left in the dark about, but whether or not your husband or wife is cheating on you is certainly not one of them.
But a cheating spouse knows the peril should he or she be discovered. In fact, any affair lasting longer than a single impulsive act of unrestrained, irresponsible carnality is almost certainly the result of a series of premeditated actions, designed to hide the cheater’s relationship-crimes from you. Cheaters take meticulous care to keep their dubious desires and subsequent trysts in the dark. So how do you, the alleged victim shine the light of exposure on your straying spouse? How can you catch them red-handed?
